All-time temperature record broken in Turkey
According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the 'all-time temperature record for Turkey' was broken on July 25 in the Silopi district of Şırnak with a temperature of 50.5 degrees. On the same day, 'all-time highest July temperature values' were recorded in 132 of the centers where temperature measurements are taken.
The General Directorate of Meteorology, under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, announced that record-breaking data was measured in July, with temperature values hovering up to 12 degrees above seasonal norms.
The 'all-time temperature record for Turkey,' which was measured at 49.5 degrees in Eskişehir Sarıcakaya on August 15, 2023, was broken on Friday, July 25, in Şırnak Silopi with 50.5 degrees.
On the same day, 'all-time highest July temperature values' were recorded in 132 of the centers where temperature measurements are taken.
On July 25, in addition to Silopi, temperatures reached 49 degrees or higher at 5 other stations. Temperatures were measured at 49.6 degrees in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin, 49.4 degrees in the Cizre district of Şırnak, 49.3 degrees in the Nusaybin district of Mardin, 49.1 degrees in the Kurtalan district of Siirt, and 49 degrees at the Şanlıurfa Ceylanpınar TİGEM station.
Meteorology warned citizens that new temperature records could be broken in the final days of July. It was advised that individuals with chronic illnesses, the elderly, pregnant women, and children should not be in open areas between 11:00 and 16:00, which are the hottest hours of the day.
