Allegation of 'complete illegality' regarding CHP's extraordinary convention decision: Application filed with the YSK

The decision for the CHP's Extraordinary Convention, which is set to be held on Sunday, September 21, has been taken to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) on the grounds of "complete illegality." The YSK, which has accepted the application, will discuss the objection and announce its final decision during its agenda meeting tomorrow at 15:30.

According to the report by Fevzi Çakır from Habertürk, the application filed by Şahin Kurt against the decision of the Çankaya 4th District Election Board dated September 15, 2025, and numbered 2025/63, was examined by the Provincial Election Board. Pointing out that the decisions made by district election board chairs are final, the Provincial Election Board ruled that "there is no room for a decision to be made regarding the objection."

The decision cited the provisions of the Law on Political Parties No. 2820, stating that procedural operations during congress and election processes are carried out under the supervision of district election boards. It was stated that the decisions made by the district election board chair are final in nature, and therefore the Provincial Election Board does not have the authority to review them.

In the decision taken unanimously on September 17, 2025, with the signatures of Presiding Judge Sevim Özcan Kalkan and members Sevda Arıkboğa Usta and Cengiz Aydıner, it was ruled that the application was rejected and that a copy of the decision should be served to the objector, Şahin Kurt.

YSK TO CONVENE TOMORROW

Following the Provincial Election Board's decision, the process was moved to the YSK. The YSK, which accepted the application filed with the claim of "complete illegality" regarding the extraordinary convention to be held on Sunday, will convene tomorrow at 15:30 to discuss the objection. The decision to be made by the council will be binding and final ahead of the extraordinary convention that the CHP plans to hold this weekend.
