Allegations of 'hasema' ban at pool
It is alleged that Meral Algül, who entered a communal pool at a residential complex in the Akçakoca district of Düzce, was prevented from doing so by the site manager and a security guard while wearing a 'hasema' (full-body swimsuit). Meral Algül's husband, Muhammet Algül, stated, "It is a decision that restricts freedom, taken by people who claim to defend freedom. Imposing this is clearly discriminatory. This is not a situation we will accept."
It is alleged that Meral Algül, who entered a communal pool at a residential complex in Düzce where she owns a summer apartment, was prevented from doing so by the site manager and a security guard while wearing a hasema.
The incident occurred yesterday at a summer residential complex located next to Akevler Beach in the Akçakoca district. Meral and Muhammet Algül had arrived at the apartment they purchased in the complex to spend the weekend. The woman entered the communal pool at the site where their home is located wearing a hasema.
At that moment, the site manager, A.K., shouted from a distance that entering the pool with a hasema was prohibited. When Meral Algül objected to the situation, A.K. headed toward her, and Meral Algül then exited the pool and began recording the events with her mobile phone.
In the footage, A.K. states that it is forbidden for Meral Algül to enter the pool with a hasema, saying, "There are rules here." Later, a security guard who arrived at the pool also stated, "It is forbidden to enter here with a hasema."
Upon the woman stating that she would continue to enter, the security guard said, "I will be forced to close the pool." The pool was closed to prevent the woman from entering, and Meral Algül reacted to the events.
SITE MANAGER AND SECURITY GUARD DETAINED
In the Akçakoca district of Düzce, the site manager A.K. (67) and security guard S.D. (64), who closed the pool to prevent Meral Algül (35) from entering the communal pool with a hasema, were detained following the woman's complaint on charges of "Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility" and "Preventing the Exercise of Freedom of Belief, Thought, and Opinion."
