Allegations that three patients contracted HIV in some hospitals in İzmir! Did the blood come from Kızılay?

The death of a 13-year-old child in İzmir due to AIDS has become a major topic of discussion in Turkey. It was stated that the disease was not transmitted to the child from the mother, but rather through sexual abuse.

Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir MP Sevda Erdan Kılıç raised a striking allegation in a post on her social media account.

According to Cumhuriyet, Kılıç stated that they have reached information indicating that three patients contracted the HIV virus due to blood provided to some hospitals in İzmir by Kızılay, and she has submitted a parliamentary question to the TBMM regarding the issue.

“It was alleged that the child might have been sexually abused. However, the Ministry of Health announced that no findings of sexual abuse were encountered during the examinations. So, how did this child contract the HIV virus?” Kılıç asked, “Was a blood transfusion performed on our child, who is said to have undergone surgery three years ago? Could the blood provided to hospitals by Kızılay have caused such a situation? Are these matters being covered up within the institutions?” posing these questions.

Stating that there are over 100 HIV-positive children receiving treatment at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and that it has emerged that approximately 20 of these children contracted the HIV virus through sexual abuse, Kılıç noted that there are nearly 250 children diagnosed with HIV across Turkey, adding that this situation poses a serious public health threat.

It had been stated that the routine HIV test performed on the child, whose father is HIV-positive, prior to a tonsillectomy in 2021, had returned a negative result. The Ministry of Health had announced that no findings of abuse were encountered during the child's psychiatric evaluation.
