Amazon lays off 16,000 employees
Technology and e-commerce giant Amazon has announced that it will part ways with approximately 16,000 corporate employees as part of a restructuring process. With these latest decisions, it is reported that the company's total number of layoffs in the recent period has approached 30,000.
Amazon, which operates on a global scale, has entered 2026 with a decision to downsize its workforce. In an official statement released by the company, it was announced that a new layoff process has been initiated in certain US-based units.
RESTRUCTURING DECISION ANNOUNCED
With the decision taken within the framework of corporate restructuring in the US, it was reported that approximately 16,000 employees will be laid off. Thus, it was stated that the total number of layoffs announced by Amazon in recent months has approached 30,000.
TRANSITION SUPPORT TO BE PROVIDED TO EMPLOYEES
In a statement made by Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, it was noted that employees affected by the layoffs will be granted the right to search for a different position within the company for 90 days. It was also stated that a severance package and career transition support will be offered.
In the assessment made by Galetti, it was noted that the decision in question is consistent with Amazon's growth strategy and that the goal is to support the career processes of the employees.
According to information reported by Bloomberg HT, it was stated that the restructuring process was shaped in line with the corporate simplification policy that CEO Andy Jassy has been voicing for a long time.
It was reported that the purpose of the process is to reduce management layers, clarify areas of responsibility, and decrease bureaucracy.
INVESTMENTS IN STRATEGIC AREAS WILL CONTINUE
In the statement made by the company, it was emphasized that the layoffs will not stop Amazon's hiring plans in strategically critical areas. Information was shared that investments in these areas will continue.
POST-PANDEMIC CUTS CONTINUE
It was recalled that the latest decision comes after the announcement a few months ago that 14,000 positions were being eliminated. It was stated that a new wave has emerged, reminiscent of the layoffs that began in the post-pandemic period and affected approximately 27,000 employees between late 2022 and early 2023.
As of September 30, it was recorded that Amazon's total number of employees was approximately 1 million 570 thousand. It was reported that the majority of these employees consist of warehouse personnel.
