An ordinary day: Footage of a shopkeeper filming those waiting for a visa-on-arrival to Greece
Turkey has practically turned into a "land of queues." From the Halk Ekmek queues for affordable bread sold by the IMM to the lines at the IMM's affordable restaurants, now the queues of citizens waiting for an affordable vacation have become a hot topic.
In these days when vacationing in Turkey has become expensive even for foreign tourists, domestic tourists have also begun to postpone their seasons and reduce the number of overnight stays. With the high cost of living and declining purchasing power, domestic tourists have started to rethink the season. Due to accommodation prices, which have increased by an average of around 90 percent in tourism, many vacationers have chosen to postpone their holidays to the low season, when prices are kept 50 percent cheaper, instead of June, July, and August, and have also reduced the number of nights stayed.
While there have been increases of up to 80 percent in early booking prices for summer vacations, the cost of a 5-night vacation in Turkey has reached 200 thousand liras. While a 5-night hotel vacation package in Antalya, including flights, is sold to German tourists for 500 euros, domestic tourists can only purchase a room for the same price.
The economic crisis has practically turned Turkey into a "land of queues." From the Halk Ekmek (People's Bread) queues for affordable bread sold by the IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) to the lines at the IMM's affordable restaurants, now the queues of citizens waiting for an affordable vacation have become a hot topic.
In Cunda, Ayvalık, a shopkeeper who filmed those waiting in line for a visa-on-arrival to cross into Greece for an affordable vacation commented, "We are swatting flies in Cunda; people are filling the pockets of the Greeks with national capital." However, many social media users responded to this comment by making price comparisons between Turkey and Greece.
Here is that video:
