Anadolu Press Federation condemns Halk TV's Israel caption: We expect an apology from the public
The Anadolu Press Federation (ABF) has condemned Halk TV for using the caption "How did Israel come suddenly one night?" following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, and also condemned Meta—the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—for allegedly blocking accounts that shared photos of Haniyeh.
The Anadolu Press Federation has reacted to Halk TV's use of the caption "How did Israel come suddenly one night?" following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.
In a statement issued by the federation, it was noted that Haniyeh, who was assassinated in the Iranian capital of Tehran, defended Palestine's "just cause."
The statement included the following remarks: "Following the treacherous assassination of Haniyeh, Halk TV committed another scandal by using the caption (KJ) 'How did Israel come suddenly one night?'. We stand against such an understanding of broadcasting; as the ABF, we condemn Halk TV. We expect the television channel to come to its senses due to its irresponsible broadcasts and to apologize to the entire public."
In the statement, which also alleged that Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, systematically censors posts about Haniyeh, the following was noted:
"Meta is doing everything in its power to ensure the world remains unaware of the children being massacred in Gaza. This censorship destroys the principle of impartiality. Blocking all accounts that share photos of Ismail Haniyeh and removing posts is a double standard and hypocrisy. The truth cannot be covered up by obscuring what is happening. We strongly condemn these two institutions."
