Announcement from Gülistan Doku's lawyer regarding 'high-ranking public official involved in cover-up': We will share it with evidence
Ali Çimen, the lawyer for the family of university student Gülistan Doku, who has been missing in Tunceli since January 5, 2020, has made a new statement regarding the investigation in which 13 people were detained.
A critical step has been taken 6 years later in the investigation into the disappearance of Munzur University student Gülistan Doku in Tunceli, who has not been heard from since January 5, 2020.
In the case file, where the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is focusing on "murder," detention warrants were issued for 13 people, including Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, his bodyguard, and Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abarakov, on suspicion of "intentional killing" and "concealing evidence of a crime"; 12 people have been detained.
Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development Department at Munzur University, left the Credit and Hostels Institution (KYK) dormitory where she was staying on the morning of January 5, 2020.
Her friends and family, unable to reach Doku, filed a missing person report with the police on January 6. During the initial investigations, footage was obtained showing that Doku had argued with her boyfriend, Zeinal Abarakov, one day before she went missing and that an attempt had been made to force her into a vehicle.
In the first months of the investigation, search efforts were concentrated on the Uzunçayır Dam Lake, following claims that Gülistan Doku was seen on the Dinar Bridge (Sarı Saltuk Viaduct) and assessments that an "object falling into the water" was visible in the local KGYS (City Security Management System) footage.
Teams consisting of the Naval Forces, AFAD, Gendarmerie, and Police units conducted scans for months using underwater robots and sonar devices. Upon the family's persistent demands, the water in the dam lake was drained and the level was lowered, but no results were obtained from the days of uninterrupted work.
Sharing on his social media account, Çimen stated, "On April 15, we will share a portion of the actions of the cover-up perpetrator, whom we have coded as a high-ranking public official, with definitive evidence."
