Another application from Ahmet Özer's lawyers
Lawyers for Ahmet Özer, who was removed from his post as Mayor of Esenyurt, have filed an application with the Istanbul Duty Criminal Court of Peace requesting a monthly review of his detention.
Lawyers for Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested in Istanbul on charges of "being a member of the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK," have submitted a petition to the Istanbul Duty Criminal Court of Peace for their client's release.
In their petition, lawyers Hasan Sınar and Hüseyin Ersöz argued that the monthly detention review for Özer should be conducted through a hearing.
Speaking to members of the press in front of the Istanbul Courthouse, Özer's lawyer Hasan Sınar stated that they would convey their request for their client to be granted the right to present a defense to the prosecutor's office, noting that no concrete steps have been taken regarding the case file.
Sınar noted that Özer has been deprived of his liberty in prison for 25 days and that there has been no progress regarding the preparation of an indictment.
ÖZER'S DETENTION IS UNLAWFUL
Lawyer Ersöz stated that they had submitted a comprehensive defense in their petition and that they would take the necessary steps to ensure Özer's request for a hearing is accepted. Emphasizing that Özer's detention is unlawful and that the case must be advanced urgently, Ersöz demanded that his client's rights be defended through a fair trial process.
