Another criticism of Israel's Gaza attacks from Brazil: Lula criticizes the UNSC
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stating that its resolutions regarding Israel's attacks on Gaza are "not being respected."
Lula da Silva spoke about Israel's attacks on Gaza in an interview with Al Jazeera television.
Stating that "no one respects" the UNSC's resolutions regarding Israel's attacks on Gaza, Lula da Silva said, "If we had real leaders and a body whose decisions were respected and implemented—which should be the UNSC—this war would not be happening."
Lula da Silva described the situation as "madness," referring to the thousands of people, including children, who have been killed or injured, and the bombing of hospitals.
Stating that Israel "has the right to defend itself, but it does not have to do so by killing innocent women and children," Lula da Silva called for the states of Palestine and Israel to live "in harmony."
CRITICISM OF BIDEN AND NETANYAHU
Lula da Silva noted that he "cannot understand why US President Joe Biden does not have the sensitivity to call for an end to the war."
Emphasizing that the US has "a huge influence" over Israel, Lula da Silva criticized Biden, saying, "They could have stopped the war. Discussing this issue at the negotiating table is cheaper than weapons. Words kill fewer (people) than the barrel of a gun. War leads nowhere."
On the other hand, Lula da Silva stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is an "extremist leader with low sensitivity to humanitarian problems," adding, "(Netanyahu) must learn that the respect due to Jews must also be shown to the Palestinian people."
