Another investigation opened against Ekrem İmamoğlu: Reason is 'fake diploma' allegations
Another investigation has been opened against Ekrem İmamoğlu. It was reported that the investigation was launched due to allegations of a fake diploma.
It has been learned that an investigation has been launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on charges of 'forgery of official documents.' The reason cited for the investigation is the allegations that İmamoğlu's university diploma is fake.
Following the allegations that İmamoğlu's diploma was fake, the IMM responded to the claims with an official statement on September 12, 2024. In a post shared via the IMM Teyit (IMM Verification) social media account, it was stated that İmamoğlu graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration and that his diploma is registered in both the municipality and university archives.
The post stated the following:
''The claim that IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu does not have a university diploma is completely fabricated. Mr. İmamoğlu is a graduate of the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration. The graduation certificate, a photocopy of which we share below, is located in the IMM and university archives.''

According to a report by Habertürk, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into İmamoğlu on suspicion of 'forgery of official documents' due to the allegations that his diploma is fake. It was noted that İmamoğlu will provide his statement on February 26.
The following statements were included in the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's announcement:
''In the investigation initiated upon the report prepared by the Council of Higher Education within the scope of notifications regarding the alleged forgery of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's undergraduate diploma, which includes findings regarding the forgery of the diploma of the person in question, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been invited to our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office via a summons to provide his statement on February 26, 2025, within the scope of the crime specified in Article 204 and subsequent articles of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).''
