Another police officer dies by suicide due to economic reasons! 'I am leaving you a heavy debt...'

A new case has been added to the police suicides that have drawn attention since the beginning of the year. Police officer Uğur Mustafa Namlı, who was serving in Istanbul and was learned to have been in serious debt for some time, ended his life inside his car.

According to the statement made by the Police Voice Platform (Polisin Sesi Platformu) to 12punto, Namlı, who died by suicide due to economic reasons, was rushed to the hospital at the last moment.

The police officer, who is unconscious, continues to receive treatment in intensive care. Namlı's life remains in danger.

'I AM LEAVING YOU A HEAVY DEBT'

It has emerged that the police officer wrote a farewell letter to his family (his wife and daughter) before taking his own life. In the letter, Namlı stated, "I am leaving you a heavy debt, in addition to great sorrow. I think this car will cover a small part of it. It would be better for you to reject the inheritance I have left you."

Police suicides, which have been increasing in recent years, continue unabated in 2025. The first four months of 2025 have not yet been completed, but the number of police officers who have died by suicide has reached 32 with Uğur Mustafa Namlı. Economic reasons have emerged as the underlying cause in most of the suicide cases.

CHP'S MOTION TO 'INVESTIGATE POLICE SUICIDES' WAS REJECTED

Murat Bakan, who serves as the Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Interior in the CHP's shadow cabinet and as an MP for İzmir, had submitted a motion to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the investigation of police suicides. However, Bakan's motion was rejected by the votes of AKP and MHP deputies.
