Anxiety over vote loss in AKP: Date set for Cabinet reshuffle

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has made widespread changes in his party's provincial and district organizations. With the congress process ongoing in the AKP, eyes are now turned to the revision to be made in the Central Executive Board (MYK) and the Presidential Cabinet.

CABINET RESHUFFLE AFTER THE CONGRESS

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, AKP sources noted that the cabinet reshuffle might be delayed until after the congress to be held on February 23. Party officials pointed to a radical change being made in the MYK.

For the AKP, which emerged from the March 31 Local Elections with a defeat and fell to the position of the second party across Turkey for the first time, these results have become a turning point.

Accepting the election defeat in his speech at his party's provincial congresses, Erdoğan had warned his party by saying, "Bending and twisting the numbers or producing various analyses does not suit us or the AK Party. Our goal is not to let the AK Party's vote share fall below 50 percent. Our goal is to enter the hearts of 85 million people."

It was stated that Erdoğan is preparing to make changes of over 50 percent in the party's MYK. At least 10 of the 16 deputy chairmen in the MYK are expected to be replaced.
