Appeal against Nasuh Mahruki's detention rejected

Former Search and Rescue Association (AKUT) president Nasuh Mahruki had posted on social media regarding Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Ahmet Yener's statement on electronic voting, stating, "The government and the YSK are setting up a scheme to steal the elections one last time."

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation into Mahruki on charges of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' and 'publicly insulting judicial bodies.'

After providing his statement to the prosecutor's office, Mahruki was arrested by the court, and his lawyers subsequently filed a petition to appeal his detention.

Mahruki's wife, Mine Mahruki, announced that the appeal against the detention had been rejected:

"Dear friends, as you all know, my dear husband Nasuh Mahruki has been separated from us and in detention for exactly 14 days. Today, we received a rejection for the appeal we filed regarding his detention. Despite this outcome, I believe that justice will be served as soon as possible, that Nasuh will regain his freedom shortly, and I maintain my trust in the Turkish justice system."
