Apple to pay compensation for slowing down older iPhones!
Tech giant Apple has begun paying $500 million in compensation in the US for intentionally slowing down certain iPhone models.
Apple has decided to pay $500 million in compensation in a class-action lawsuit filed in the US for intentionally slowing down certain iPhone models.
In the long-running case, it was acknowledged that Apple had intentionally reduced the performance of the phones in question over time. Accused of slowing down phones without informing customers about this situation, Apple had offered discounted battery replacements to customers to resolve the issue.
With the payment of the $500 million settlement, Apple will pay $92 in compensation to customers who claimed their phones were slowed down. The case in the US, which Apple sought to settle in 2020, dates back to 2017.
A similar lawsuit is ongoing in the UK, with a compensation claim of 1.6 billion pounds. In the UK case, it is alleged that Apple similarly intentionally reduced the performance of iPhones. Apple, however, denies these allegations and maintains that its products were not intentionally slowed down.
