Application to YSK to 'cancel local elections': CHP had become the leading party
It has been learned that an application has been filed with the Supreme Election Council (YSK) requesting the cancellation of the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections, in which the CHP emerged as the leading party.
The 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice has issued a decision of "absolute nullity" regarding the CHP convention case.
According to the decision, Özgür Özel and his administration, who enabled the CHP to become the leading party for the first time in 47 years, are being removed from office as a precautionary measure, while Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his administration will return to duty.
Finally, an objection filed with the YSK regarding the decision was rejected today.
APPLICATION TO YSK FOR LOCAL ELECTION CANCELLATION
A CHP member filed an application with the YSK following the decision by the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice (BAM) to determine that the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention, held on November 4-5, 2023, was void due to absolute nullity and to cancel it from the date it was held.
It was stated that the application requested the cancellation of the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections following the convention held on November 4-5, 2023.
The YSK is expected to address this application during its agenda meeting to be held today.
CHP HAD BECOME THE LEADING PARTY
In the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections, the CHP became the leading party with 37.76 percent of the vote.
The CHP had outperformed its closest rival, the AKP, in major metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Antalya.
