The TKP (Communist Party of Turkey) has published a text titled 'Once again, republic, sovereignty, and equality for our children' on the occasion of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

The statement included the following remarks:

'The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which achieved our country's most advanced gains, was founded 106 years ago today. It led the struggle for independence, abolished the sultanate and the caliphate, and established the republic.

''WE CANNOT SPEAK OF EITHER POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY OR THE REPUBLIC''

Nothing remains of this great leap forward today. In a country where our citizens are pushed into the arms of extreme poverty, inequality, and exploitation, where our children are surrendered to religious sects and a reactionary education system, and where worker and femicides occur every day, we cannot speak of either popular sovereignty or the republic.

The attack that our children and teachers faced in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş just a few days before April 23 demonstrates the dimensions of the darkness our country has fallen into.

For a long time, the country's institutions have been turned into a playground used by a handful of bosses to plunder all wealth, liquidate the gains of the republic, and implement anti-people policies.

''THE RULING POLITICS AND PARLIAMENT DO NOT REPRESENT OUR WORKING PEOPLE IN ANY WAY''

Today, the ruling politics and parliament do not represent our working people in any way.

The meaning of April 23 is clear: April 23 is independence, secularism, and the will of the people to govern themselves. It is a bright country where our children's faces smile. The working people, who are the true owners of this country, will certainly establish a system and a parliament where they will have a say in their own future.

With the belief that we will build an egalitarian, free, independent, and bright country, we celebrate April 23 for all our people and our children.''
