'Arabic' crisis in AKP: Mücahit Birinci calls on Ali Erbaş to resign

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Iraq, during which Diyanet President Ali Erbaş failed to understand a question posed to him in Arabic in Baghdad and requested a Turkish translation, continues to be a topic of discussion.

Erbaş, whose resume states that he has 'a very good command of Arabic,' faced criticism from former AKP Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) member Mücahit Birinci.

Inviting Erbaş to resign, Birinci stated, "I am of the opinion that a Diyanet President who has 'knows Arabic' on his resume but does not actually know Arabic should vacate the seat."

Birinci included the following statements in his post:

"For two reasons:

1- The resume is not accurate. (Our Prophet says a believer does not lie)

2- It is unthinkable for a person who deals with Islam and Islamic jurisprudence and heads the authority for fatwas not to know Arabic. Because the Quran is in Arabic."
