Armed attack carried out during charity meal

In Istanbul's Sultangazi district, two individuals on a motorcycle carried out an armed attack on those attending a charity meal at a cemevi. While no one attending the meal was injured by chance, one of the attackers was apprehended by bystanders while fleeing the scene, and the other, who opened fire on police, was shot in the leg and captured by officers.

The attack took place yesterday at around 16:00 at the Gazi Neighborhood Cemevi.

Two individuals on a motorcycle arrived on the street and began firing while the charity meal was being served. Bystanders who heard the gunshots intervened against the attackers. While no one attending the meal was injured in the attack, numerous police teams were dispatched to the area upon notification.

HE HAD A FINALIZED PRISON SENTENCE!

Police teams took one of the attackers, who had been caught by bystanders, into custody and pursued the other individual on the street. The suspect being chased by police, Muhammet Salih B., opened fire on the officers during the pursuit. The suspect was shot in the leg and captured while wounded. In subsequent investigations, Emircan A. (17), who was identified as the owner of the license-plate-free motorcycle used in the incident, was also caught and taken into custody by the teams. During the interrogation of the suspects who carried out the incident, Muhammet Salih B. (27) and Berat K. (17), it was determined that they had numerous criminal records for offenses such as "resisting an officer, robbery, TCK 188 (drug trafficking), and theft," and that Muhammet Salih B. had a finalized 4-year and 9-month prison sentence for crimes including "robbery, theft, narcotics, and breach of trust." A search of Muhammet Salih B. revealed two 9mm unlicensed pistols and one bulletproof vest. During the investigation at the scene, 13 empty 9mm shell casings were found. The individuals apprehended in connection with the matter were referred to the courthouse following the investigation procedures on charges of "resisting a public officer, attempted intentional homicide, and violation of Law No. 6136."
