In the Cankurtaran region of Artvin, fire was opened on villagers who wanted to prevent the felling of trees for a recreational area project. One person died and two people were injured in the incident.
According to the report in BirGün, construction machinery entered the forest this morning to begin felling for the planned recreational area project in the Cankurtaran region. The villagers, organized through the Çifteköprü Agricultural Development Cooperative, attempted to block the felling.
A scuffle broke out during the intervention. While the villagers were keeping watch in the area, those who wanted to bring the construction machinery into the site opened fire on the villagers with guns.

Villagers Reşit Kibar, Ersan Koyuncu, and Gökhan Koyuncu were injured in the attack. The injured were taken to Hopa State Hospital for treatment.
