Armenia returns 4 villages to Azerbaijan: Turkey issues written statement

In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was noted that the agreement reached at yesterday's meeting of the Azerbaijan-Armenia Border Delimitation Commission regarding the return of 4 villages to Azerbaijan and the continuation of border delimitation efforts was welcomed.

The statement included the expression, "This positive development, achieved through direct negotiations, is an important step toward the signing of a final peace agreement."

MEETING HELD AT THE BORDER

Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan chaired the 8th meeting of the border delimitation commissions, which was held at the border between the two countries.

In a written statement issued by Azerbaijan regarding the meeting, it was noted that the commissions had reached a consensus on several issues.

According to the agreement, the border in the direction of Azerbaijan's Gazakh district will be determined in accordance with the border that existed at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The line will pass between the villages of Baganis (Armenia)-Baghanis Ayrim (Azerbaijan), Voskepar (Armenia)-Ashaghi Eskipara (Azerbaijan), Kirants (Armenia)-Heyrimli (Azerbaijan), and Berkaber (Armenia)-Gizilhajili (Azerbaijan).

This means that Armenia will return the villages of Baghanis Ayrim, Ashaghi Eskipara, Heyrimli, and Gizilhajili, which it occupied during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, to Azerbaijan.
