Army thwarts coup attempt in Democratic Republic of Congo
The army in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced that a coup attempt was suppressed by security forces and that those involved in the attempt have been neutralized.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the army reported that a coup attempt that began in the morning hours was suppressed by security forces.
COUP ATTEMPT GROUP NEUTRALIZED
DRC Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge stated in a press release that the Armed Forces of the DRC thwarted a coup attempt by a group of armed individuals, which included foreign nationals.
Stating that the group attempting the coup had been neutralized, Ekenge called on citizens to remain calm.
According to reports in the national press, clashes occurred between security forces and armed individuals in the Goma district of the capital, Kinshasa, and 3 armed individuals were killed.
