Arrest in 'fake diploma and corruption' investigation in TRNC

Derviş Refiker, Secretary General of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), has been arrested as part of the ongoing 'fake diploma and corruption' investigation at the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The 'fake diploma and corruption' investigation at the Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTÜ) in the TRNC continues. As part of the investigation, YÖDAK Secretary General Derviş Refiker was arrested today. It was stated that Refiker, who was brought to court in Nicosia today, received bribes to ensure that the KSTÜ medical faculty was quickly placed on the YÖDAK agenda.

IT WAS DETERMINED THAT REFİKER HAD A SIGNATURE ON AN 800 DOLLAR RECEIPT

It was also noted that Refiker's name appeared on 7 separate payment receipts from different dates found in the university's accounting records. It was stated that notes were made on the receipts indicating that the suspect was given a total of 6 thousand 330 dollars, 700 Euros, 10 thousand TL, and AirPods Pro 2 headphones. The police stated that they determined the suspect had a signature on an 800-dollar receipt and had received 800 dollars, 700 euros, and the AirPods Pro 2 headphones, and that they would investigate whether he received the items listed on the other receipts. The court decided that the suspect should remain in custody for another 3 days.

YÖDAK PRESIDENT TURGAY AVCI RESIGNED

YÖDAK President Turgay Avcı, who was arrested last week as part of the investigation and released on bail to be tried without arrest after a 3-day detention period, submitted his resignation letter to the TRNC Presidency yesterday.
