Arrest requests for 13 suspects in illegal betting operation ahead of World Cup final
In an operation targeting an illegal betting network in Istanbul ahead of the World Cup final, 6,314 bank accounts were blocked; 13 suspects were referred to the court.
In an investigation conducted into illegal betting traffic in Istanbul ahead of the World Cup Final match, arrest was requested for 13 of the 16 suspects referred to the courthouse.
In the work carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Bureau of Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes and the Cybercrime Branch Directorate, 19 "external finance houses" alleged to be acting in connection with illegal betting sites were uncovered.
Within the scope of the operation, a blocking order was issued for 6,314 bank accounts evaluated to have been used in betting money traffic. Detention warrants were issued for 23 suspects in the investigation.
The 16 detained suspects were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse after undergoing health checks following their procedures at the police station. Of the suspects whose statements were completed by the prosecutor's office, 13 were sent to the duty magistrate judge with a request for arrest, and 3 with a request for judicial control.
