Former THK University Rector Ünsal Ban had previously made headlines over bribery allegations concerning capital increases in certain companies, involving his ex-wife, AKP Erzurum MP Zehra Taşkesenlioğlu, and former Capital Markets Board (SPK) Chairman Ali Fuat Taşkesenlioğlu. WHO IS ÜNSAL BAN?

On April 30, 2025, detention warrants were issued for 15 people alleged to have engaged in manipulative activities on the Borsa Istanbul.

Ban was detained and arrested on August 29, 2022, on charges of "sharing personal data with an organized crime group leader," "threats," and "blackmail."

Referred to the courthouse, Ban was arrested once more on September 3, 2022, and sent to prison.

One day after being released from the case in which he was held in custody, Ban was detained along with nine others, including his ex-wife G.B., his son E.B., his brother Ünal Ban, and his driver A.K., as part of an investigation into "laundering assets derived from crime."

In a statement from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that based on MASAK reports and other evidence collected as part of the investigation into the crime of "laundering assets derived from crime," the suspects were referred to the magistrate judge on February 13, 2023, with a request for their arrest.

It was stated that on February 14, 2023, suspects Ünsal Ban, his brother Ünal Ban, G.B., E.B., and A.K. were arrested by the criminal judgeship of peace for the aforementioned crime, while the other suspects were released under judicial control conditions. Ban was released 13 months later in the case where he was being tried for money laundering.
