The statement used the words, "We call for the rejection of this shameful, painful, and infuriating massacre bill."
The statement, signed by many artists, included the following remarks:
"INHUMANE CRUELTY MUST BE ENDED"
The attempt to solve the problem of stray animals—which has emerged as a result of past and current administrations failing to take necessary humane and scientific measures—through mass slaughter is contrary to reason, logic, conscience, and all human values.
The dog massacre must be stopped immediately, and the inhumane cruelty inflicted upon innocent, stray creatures must be brought to an end.
As the sensitive, conscientious, human, animal, and nature-loving writers and artists of our country, we call upon all members of our Grand National Assembly of Turkey not to forget that the future is the greatest and most just judge, and to reject this shameful, painful, and infuriating massacre bill."
