Attack from the Greek side in Cyprus: Stones and explosives thrown at civilians

A disgraceful attack was carried out against the TRNC by the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) in Cyprus.

The TRNC Security Forces Command (GKK) announced that at approximately 13:30 local time, a group from the Greek side threw stones and explosives at civilians located at the Yiğitler Bastion in the capital, Nicosia.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Condemnation from TRNC President Erhürman

TRNC President Tufan Erhürman strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Force and the GCA leadership intervene in the incident quickly. Erhürman called for the necessary steps to be taken as soon as possible and for information to be shared with the relevant authorities.

The TRNC President stated, "Contact has been established with both the UN Peacekeeping Force and our counterparts in the south regarding this attack, which took place in an area where the UN Peacekeeping Force bears responsibility due to its status as a buffer zone, and where the Greek Cypriot leadership bears responsibility due to its use as a road."

"It is impossible for us to accept that no precautions were taken"

Erhürman said, "It is impossible for us to accept that no precautions were taken in such an area on a day like April 1st, when everyone could have anticipated the possibility of such incidents occurring.

I strongly condemn those who carried out the attack, and we expect both the UN Peacekeeping Force, with whom we have been in contact, and the Greek Cypriot leadership to take the necessary initiatives as quickly as possible and to share information with our authorized bodies," he said.

The TRNC President added, "We will follow up on the Greek Cypriot leadership's authorized bodies urgently initiating the necessary judicial investigation and ensuring that those who carried out this attack are subjected to the necessary legal proceedings.

None of our citizens were harmed in the incident. I once again strongly condemn those who carried out this attack, emphasize that it is unacceptable that the necessary precautions were not taken on such a day, and underline once again that we will be closely following the process that the UN Peacekeeping Force and the Greek Cypriot leadership will pursue," he said.
