Attack on KRT TV: 'I have a hand grenade on me'
An individual who forced their way into the KRT TV channel building claimed to have a hand grenade on them. The individual was apprehended and taken into custody following a swift intervention by security forces.
A suspect who broke through a turnstile gate to enter a television channel building in Sarıyer and issued threats has been taken into custody.
The Istanbul Police Department issued a statement regarding the incident at KRT TV's building in Sarıyer.
The statement noted that an investigation was launched into the incident, which occurred at the office of a national channel operating in Sarıyer at approximately 17:15 this evening, and included the following remarks:
"It was determined that the suspect, H.Y. (55), broke the glass turnstile gate inside the office to enter, that there was no bomb mechanism on him, and that he only made threats by showing a picture of a hand grenade on his mobile phone to the police officer on duty at the address; the suspect, who has been taken into custody, was determined to be intoxicated."
The statement noted that judicial proceedings have been initiated against the suspect for the crime of "damaging property."
