In İzmir, a taxi driver was attacked in an incident that occurred on February 10 at approximately 00:50 on 3513 Street in the Ferahlı neighborhood. The victim, taxi driver Kaya Özel (23), had begun driving after picking up a woman who had signaled him. Kaya Özel, who had taken the woman into his taxi to help her because he thought she was in a difficult situation, was subjected to a physical assault with punches by a man after his vehicle stopped. The moments of the attack, which also caused damage to the vehicle, were recorded by the in-car camera.

DETAINED BY THE İZMİR PUBLIC SECURITY BRANCH

The İzmir Public Security Branch Directorate teams, who had apprehended Delil Aysal—the murderer of taxi driver Oğuz Erge in İzmir—within 1.5 hours of that incident, have taken the 27-year-old suspect Metehan A., who attacked Kaya Özel, into custody. It was learned that the suspect, Metehan A., has a criminal record for 7 offenses, including theft, insult, threats, and intentional injury.

EXPLAINED WHY HE ATTACKED

According to the details obtained by 12punto.com.tr, it was learned that Metehan A. said, "The person who got into the taxi is my sister-in-law. We were drinking alcohol at home with a crowd. Then she got up and said she was leaving. I told her not to go and to sit down. Suddenly she got up and went outside. I followed her. At that moment, a taxi was passing by. She signaled and it stopped. As soon as she got in, I shouted at the taxi driver. I wanted him to stop. He stopped after going a little further. Under the influence of alcohol, I attacked the taxi driver, saying, 'Why didn't you stop even though I shouted and you heard my voice?'"
