Attacker turns Balıkesir into a bloodbath: Terrorizes with hijacked vehicle, kills 2, and engages in shootout with police!

At approximately 23:10, a report was made to the 112 Emergency Call Center regarding a vehicle hijacking and the use of a firearm on Ertürk Street in the Altınkum neighborhood of Balıkesir's Edremit district. Upon the report, police teams were dispatched to the area in a short time. The teams arriving at the scene determined that a citizen had lost their life and their vehicle had been hijacked.

OPENED FIRE RANDOMLY: 2 DEAD, 5 INJURED

The suspect, who fled in the hijacked vehicle, opened fire randomly at citizens in the vicinity. As a result of the gunfire, one more person lost their life, and 5 people were injured. Following the events, police teams launched a large-scale operation. During the pursuit that continued to the Edremit town center, a shootout broke out between the attacker and security forces.

POLICE OFFICERS WOUNDED IN SHOOTOUT, ATTACKER NEUTRALIZED

During the hot pursuit, 2 police officers were wounded in the ensuing shootout. With the police teams returning fire, the attacker was shot and neutralized. It was learned that the 5 injured citizens and 2 police officers are continuing their treatment in hospitals.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR USTAOĞLU

Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu, in a statement made in the garden of the Edremit District Police Department, said: "Following a report to our 112 Emergency Call Center at approximately 23:10 on October 18 that a vehicle had been hijacked and a weapon used on Ertürk Street in the Altınkum neighborhood of Edremit district, our teams immediately arrived at the scene, where it was understood that one of our citizens had been killed and their vehicle hijacked. The suspect, who fled the scene in the hijacked vehicle, killed one more of our citizens and injured 5 of our citizens. During the hot pursuit conducted by our teams to apprehend the suspect, 2 of our police officers were wounded in a shootout that broke out in the Edremit town center, and the suspect was neutralized. The treatment of our 5 injured citizens and 2 police officers is ongoing. The incident is being investigated from multiple angles by the Edremit Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and 2 Public Prosecutors have been assigned. We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to our injured citizens and police officers."

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The Edremit Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a large-scale investigation into the incident, and 2 Public Prosecutors have been assigned. The identities of the 2 citizens who lost their lives, the attacker, and the injured individuals have not yet been shared with the public.
