Attention Istanbul residents: Bread price hike on the horizon...
The Istanbul Bakers Chamber has filed an application for a 25 percent increase in the price of bread.
While a standard 200-gram loaf of bread is currently sold for 10 Turkish Liras in Istanbul, rising costs have brought the demand for a bread price hike to the agenda.
Erdoğan Çetin, President of the Istanbul Bakers Chamber, stated, "Due to the recent increases and our inability to find staff to employ, nearly 150 bakeries have closed in Istanbul. If this continues, this number could gradually increase. As of now, we have submitted a request this week for 240 grams of bread to be priced at 15 TL."
