CHP reacts sharply to Ayaş District Governor Eligül's 'shut up' remark: 'This character posing as a district governor'

Following allegations that a municipal press officer was barred from the ceremony area by the District Governor's Office during the April 23 celebrations in Ayaş, Ankara, District Governor Muharrem Eligül published a message that began with "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" in both Turkish and Arabic.

Eligül deleted the message shortly after. In the deleted post, Eligül had stated: "Municipal officials took photos and videos in the ceremony area quite freely.

This situation is already understood from their own posts. If I had used public authority to block them, then who took all those photos? Aliens?"

The Ankara Governor's Office had announced that it had launched an investigation into the Ayaş District Governor's post.

CHP Ankara MP Umut Akdoğan stated in a post on his social media account that they would keep Eligül on the agenda, saying, "Ayaş District Governor, do not think we have forgotten you. We will discuss your insolence and that of people like you in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week." Eligül responded to Akdoğan with the phrase "Shut up!"

The response to Eligül came from CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır. Emphasizing that the District Governor's vulgar expression was not directed solely at CHP's Akdoğan, Başarır shared the following on his social media account:

"This character posing as a district governor is directing this insult not only at our MP, but directly at the nation! This is the picture produced by the order you call the 'one-man system': Disrespect, incompetence, irresponsibility!"
