Azerbaijani President Aliyev condemns UEFA
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that he condemns the 2-match suspension UEFA imposed on Merih Demiral and that he stands with the Turkish National Team.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev wished the Turkish National Football Team success in their EURO 2024 quarter-final match against the Netherlands and condemned the 2-match suspension UEFA imposed on Merih Demiral due to his "wolf" gesture during the Turkey-Austria match.
Aliyev made statements regarding the penalty UEFA gave to Merih Demiral in a post on his X social media account.
The Azerbaijani President noted the following in his post:
"I congratulate our Turkish National Team, which has displayed a successful performance at the European Football Championship held in Germany, for qualifying for the quarter-finals and taking its place among the 8 strongest national teams in Europe. I especially congratulate Merih Demiral, who was chosen as the best player of the match after scoring 2 goals in the round of 16. The penalty given to Merih is unjust, and I strongly condemn it. I wish the Turkish national team victory in the match they will play against the Netherlands. Long live the Turkic world."
