Aziz Sancar receives his third citizenship after the US
Nobel Prize-winning chemist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar has become a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, in addition to his Turkish and US citizenships.
The Council of Ministers of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has granted citizenship to Nobel Prize-winning chemist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar.
With the decision published in the Official Gazette dated July 31, 2025, Sancar has acquired the citizenship of a third country, following Turkey and the US.

Sancar, known for his close friendship with TRNC President Ersin Tatar, has long drawn attention for his initiatives to gain international recognition for Northern Cyprus. The message he delivered while wearing a T-shirt that read "The TRNC must be recognized" also resonated with the global public.
