Baby killers face the judge: Newborn Gang trial to continue today
The trial of the baby-killing 'Newborn Gang,' which shook Turkey, will continue today with the defense statements of the defendants being tried without arrest.
In Istanbul, the trial of the baby-killing 'Newborn Gang'—in which 47 defendants, 22 of whom are in custody, are being tried for transferring newborn emergency patients to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had pre-arranged, causing their deaths and generating illicit profit—will continue today.
In the first hearing, which lasted 6 sessions, it was ruled that the 22 defendants in custody would remain detained.
The defendants in custody blamed each other during the first hearing. On the sixth day of the trial, the leader of the Newborn Gang, Fırat Sarı, said in his defense, “I no longer have any expectations or hope from life. I have no human dignity left. I want to explain everything here.”
Today, the defendants being tried without arrest will present their defense.
