Backlash from MPs against Sabahat Akkiraz for announcing 'that' law: As long as those reacting aren't the public...
Former CHP MP Sabahat Akkiraz has reacted to the proposal brought to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) regarding traffic fine exemptions for members of parliament. Opposing the practice, Akkiraz shared a post on her social media account, noting that some MPs had reacted to her because of her stance.
Former CHP MP Sabahat Akkiraz announced to the public via her social media account a draft law that would exempt members of parliament from traffic fines even if they do not follow traffic rules. Emphasizing that the practice is wrong, Akkiraz stated that some MPs reacted to her for announcing the regulation.
According to the regulation, which will come into effect if approved by the TBMM, two vehicles belonging to current MPs and one vehicle belonging to former MPs will be exempt from traffic fines. If the practice is implemented, approximately 3,600 former and current MPs will be able to benefit from this privilege.
In her social media post, Akkiraz emphasized that the new law is wrong and stated the following:
'Rules apply to everyone. Vehicles with right-of-way are determined by law. Stop constantly granting yourselves privileges.'

'MPS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH YOU'
Former CHP MP and artist Sabahat Akkiraz reported in her post that she was called by the TBMM Parliamentary Services Presidency and informed that if she submitted a petition for traffic fine exemption, one of her vehicles could benefit from this privilege.
In a subsequent post, Akkiraz stated that she received backlash from MPs for announcing and opposing the regulation. Stating that a former MP friend called her to say there was intense criticism, Akkiraz opposed the attitude of the MPs.
Akkiraz used the following expressions:
'As long as those reacting aren't the public, it doesn't matter. It was wrong yesterday, and it will be wrong tomorrow.'
A former MP friend called.

Said there is a lot of reaction against you!!!
Apparently because I announced and opposed the regulation that would prevent traffic fines from being issued to MPs!!!
I said as long as those reacting aren't the public, it doesn't matter.
It was wrong yesterday.
It will be wrong tomorrow.
