Bad news for those going on holiday! Bus tickets get a price hike

With the Ramadan Feast just around the corner, holiday preparations have begun. As the feast approaches, both demand and bus ticket prices are rising. Although prices vary by province, there is an average increase of 20 to 40 percent.

Those planning to travel to their hometowns or go on holiday for the feast have already started searching for tickets. However, some bus companies are changing their prices day by day.

HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS BETWEEN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA?

According to a report by NTV, one of the busiest routes, the Istanbul-Ankara trip, which costs 600 liras, rises to as much as 850 liras starting from the eve of the feast.

'WE LOWER PRICES DURING SLOW PERIODS AND RAISE THEM BACK DURING PEAK TIMES'

Musa Çatkır, Vice President of the Turkish Bus Operators Federation, stated, "We do not increase prices beyond the rates approved by the Ministry of Transport. We lower prices by 30-40 percent during slow periods. When we reach high occupancy rates, we return to our base prices."

Some companies are preparing to implement two price hikes within 5 days. For example, while the bus ticket price from Istanbul to Trabzon on March 17 is 1,289 liras, it rises to 1,500 liras a day later. On March 21, the price is seen as 1,780 liras. Some bus ticket prices are now competing with airfare.
