Bakırhan on trustee appointments: It could be the first practical step of the new process
In Diyarbakır, a statement titled “We are claiming our will and raising our voices against trustee practices” was made with the participation of DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan.
In a statement made in Diyarbakır alongside all municipal co-chairs, Bakırhan said that a new phase of the process could be initiated by reinstating the mayors who were replaced by trustees. Bakırhan stated, “It could be the first practical step of the new process. This could also be a test for the minister. The minister could make a significant contribution to this process by not approving these temporary appointments. We hope that various steps can be taken within this month.”
The statement, made in front of the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, was attended by DEM Party provincial and district municipal co-chairs. Pointing out that they are entering the anniversary of the trustee appointments, Bakırhan spoke as follows:
“Since 2016, for almost three terms, the will of the people has been usurped. Our municipalities are being managed irregularly. I will not describe the situation of the municipalities managed by trustees. It has already been reflected in the public eye. Media outlets have also witnessed many things. But these trustees have now become a shame for this country. This shame must be eliminated. This usurpation of the people's will must come to an end. The people have already demonstrated their stance against the trustees in the last elections by choosing our party, their own party, to end this usurpation."
According to the report by MA, stating that the trustee decisions in the municipalities should be lifted during a period when the commission report has also been completed, Bakırhan alluded to MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's words, "Our decision is clear until Anatolia returns to peace, Öcalan to hope, the Ahmets to their offices, and Demirtaş to his home," and continued as follows:
"We can make this the beginning of a new threshold. We can ensure that the municipal co-chairs return to their posts. A new Minister of Interior has also arrived. This could also be a test for this minister. The minister could make a significant contribution to this process by not approving these temporary appointments. We hope that this will be the first step. We hope that various steps can be taken within this month,” he said.
Subsequently answering journalists' questions, Bakırhan stated that both MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, President Erdoğan, and Abdullah Öcalan have expressed that a new phase has been entered in the process, and said:
“In this environment where we have entered this new threshold, we must now put an end to these trustee practices for this new threshold to proceed successfully. People want to see practical steps instead of words. These trustees could be the first practical step of the new process. Our people want to see practices that go beyond words, not just words. This new phase could begin with one of the most important and practical steps: the reinstatement of the Ahmets and the co-chairs of our other 13 municipalities alongside the Ahmets to their duties."
