Balance of power shifts in CHP-run Bayrampaşa Municipality: Resigns from council membership as well

A new resignation has been added to the recent series of departures at Bayrampaşa Municipality. Kerim Güler, one of the three CHP council members who announced their departure from the party yesterday, announced today that he has also resigned from his municipal council membership.

According to a report by journalist İsmail Saymaz, the CHP will appoint one of the substitute members to replace Güler.

NUMBER OF THOSE LEAVING CHP HAS INCREASED

With the resignation of council member İbrahim Soytürk announced yesterday, the number of council members who have left the CHP had risen to 4. Kerim Güler's resignation from his council seat today has further altered the landscape.

COUNCIL BALANCE HAS SHIFTED

There are a total of 37 members in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council. In the March 31, 2024 elections, the CHP had won 22 council seats. However, following the resignations, the number of CHP members in the council has fallen to 18. While the number of independent council members has risen to 4, there are also 12 AKP members and 3 MHP members in the council.

CHP HAS LOST ITS MAJORITY

Following the latest developments, the total number of AKP, MHP, and independent members has reached 19, compared to the CHP's 18 members. Thus, the CHP has lost its majority in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council.
