Balıkesir Governor Ustaoğlu: Our fight against the fire continues, there is no loss of life

Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu spoke about the fire that started in Gömeç and reached Ayvalık. Governor Ustaoğlu said, "Two significant fires occurred around noon today.

One was the fire that occurred in our Edremit Altınoluk neighborhood, and the other occurred in our Gömeç Kumgedik neighborhood. These fires were initially responded to with 6 aircraft, 5 helicopters, 30 water tenders, 16 fire trucks, and, in addition to these, water tankers, with a total of 658 personnel.

Our fire that is continuing in Altınoluk has not yet been brought under control, but at least its intensity has decreased. We hope that we can bring it under control. However, on the other hand, the fire we are currently in, which is moving towards Ayvalık, having started in Gömeç and moving towards the rural area of Ayvalık's Tıfıllar village, is unfortunately continuing.

It is estimated to be affecting an area of over one thousand hectares. Of course, due to it being nighttime, our aerial assets cannot intervene, but they will continue at daybreak. Currently, we are primarily making the necessary interventions against the fire that poses a threat to our villages," he said.

Governor Ustaoğlu continued his words as follows:

"In our Tıfıllar neighborhood, our friends have taken the necessary precautions throughout the night with all our water tenders and fire department units to prevent the fire from spreading to our villages. Thank God, there is no loss of life among our citizens at the moment. But just in case, we have carried out the evacuation of our citizens in our Ayvalık Haciveliler neighborhood as a precaution.

Currently, 41 of our citizens are there in KYK dormitories, in our state's dormitories. Some of them went to their relatives. But in the village, our young friends will continue to keep watch tonight to protect their villages.

On the other hand, as we previously shared with the public regarding the fire continuing in Altınoluk during the day, we had carried out the evacuation of 220 of our houses for precautionary purposes.

Thus, our state, with all its institutions and organizations, as you can see here, with vehicles belonging to our General Directorate of Forestry, our Ministry of Agriculture, fire trucks belonging to our municipalities, and with water tankers in our villages, including the TOMA of our gendarmerie and police, our fight against this fire continues together with all our citizens."
