Ballot box alarm in CHP for the primary election İmamoğlu will enter: Results may not be announced
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will emerge from the ballot box as the CHP's presidential candidate in the election to be held on March 23, which he will enter as the sole candidate. Although there is no hesitation regarding the candidate's selection, the CHP administration fears that participation will remain low due to there being only one candidate.
After the CHP announced that its presidential candidate would be determined by its members, 150 thousand new members were registered, bringing the total number of members to 1 million 700 thousand.
It is pointed out that participation in primary elections during previous parliamentary and local election processes, which saw fierce competition, was between 40 and 50 percent. Therefore, participation is expected to remain around 60 percent.
WARNING TO MEMBERS FROM CHP
According to the report by Gözde Nur Akgündüz from Haberglobal, it is taken into account that İmamoğlu being the sole candidate could lead to complacency and that members might not be enthusiastic about going to the polls.
For this reason, party organizations have been put on high alert to increase participation in the election.
Provincial and district presidencies are constantly calling on members with the "Come Vote, Make History" campaign. Members are also being constantly warned about the suspension of lists and the periods during which objections can be made.
Meanwhile, İmamoğlu has also started his candidacy campaign alongside the primary election. He will hold his first meeting in İzmir on March 8, move to Kayseri on the same day, and be in Adana on March 9. İmamoğlu will ask CHP members to go to the polls and vote for him.
WHAT HAPPENS IF PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO THE POLLS?
So, what will happen if CHP members do not show interest in the ballot box on March 23 and targets are not met? It is emphasized that low participation would lead to comments such as 'he could not even get enough support from CHP members, how will he get support from the nation,' and that the ruling wing would conduct counter-propaganda based on this thesis.
In the event of low participation, it is even possible that the exact vote results will not be announced. To prevent such a scenario, calls and campaigns directed at members will continue until March 23.
