Barış Terkoğlu responds to Bahçeli, who targeted him! 'As long as you don't have a drug dealer shoot me...'
Journalist Barış Terkoğlu responded to MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who targeted him during his party's group meeting.
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks that “it would be appropriate to change the 50+1 requirement” have shifted the political agenda.
Speaking at his party's group meeting, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli responded to Erdoğan’s ‘50+1’ move by saying, “The basis of democratic legitimacy for this system is 50+1 percent. Since he is elected by the people and the government does not receive a vote of confidence from the TBMM, the principle of stability in governance has occurred spontaneously. Being elected President with 50+1 percent of the vote is a form of pluralist democracy that will set a precedent for the world.”
HE TARGETED BARIŞ TERKOĞLU: 'SOME INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED...'
Making very harsh statements, Bahçeli also targeted journalist Barış Terkoğlu. Recalling Terkoğlu’s article titled ‘Will Erdoğan throw Bahçeli off his back?’, Bahçeli said, "For some intellectually disabled people to write articles asking, 'Will Erdoğan throw Bahçeli off his back?' and to talk about problems between the AK Party and the MHP is a vile attempt. Thank God, throughout our political life—listen to this carefully, and answer while you discuss among yourselves—we have never ridden on anyone's back. And we have never let anyone ride on our backs," he said.
TERKOĞLU'S RESPONSE TO BAHÇELI
Barış Terkoğlu responded to these remarks by Bahçeli.
Sharing on his X account, Terkoğlu used the following expressions;
“There is nothing that excites a person as much as a word spoken in time and in place.
As long as you don't have a drug dealer in the middle of Ankara or an under-eighteen hitman in Istanbul's Şişli shoot me, let us debate it in the newspaper column as well as on the Parliament floor.
Let the spark of truth be born from the clash of ideas…
Here is the relevant section of my article that Devlet Bahçeli targeted at the group meeting today:
‘After Meral Akşener proposed that the opposition and the government should both move without alliances, it may not be a surprise for Erdoğan to play more openly. In any case, it is clear that a step back from 50 percent will lead to a change that will increase the influence of the Parliament while untying the shackles on the wrist of the major party in power. Summary of the debate: Perhaps Erdoğan wants to finally throw Bahçeli off his back and fill his place with alliances he will build in Parliament. Consequently, he is also opening a path for the constitutional bargaining he will conduct with the opposition.’”

WHAT DID TERKOĞLU SAY IN HIS ARTICLE?
Barış Terkoğlu, in his article titled 'Will Erdoğan throw Bahçeli off his back?' written on November 20, 2023, had used the following expressions;
"It is clear that while the 50 percent system forces large parties to form alliances with small ones, it also puts the winning president under the tutelage of the small party. Perhaps Erdoğan wants to finally throw Bahçeli off his back and fill his place with alliances he will build in Parliament. Consequently, he is also opening a path for the constitutional bargaining he will conduct with the opposition"
