A barrage of investigations for students during the holiday: 70 students under investigation at Yıldız Technical University

Reactions to the student protests, which have been ongoing since March 19, continue. The administration of Istanbul's Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) launched disciplinary investigations against at least 70 students on the first day of Eid al-Adha, citing allegations of "disturbing public order" and "insulting public officials."

Among the slogans chanted by students during the protests were phrases such as "government resign," "Tayyip inside, Ekrem outside," and "we will win by uniting." The administration initiated investigations against the students due to these slogans.

During the boycott process they initiated in response to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) operations, the students had also brought up internal university issues such as the collapse of a library ceiling and price hikes in the cafeteria.

Stating, "We are only exercising our constitutional rights," the students made the following comments to BirGün:

"The investigations began without any evidence being presented. For example, I wasn't even at school that day, but investigations were opened. The goal is to intimidate us. These investigations show that the university is being commercialized and that pressure is being put on us students."
