BBP Chairman Destici made a statement on his social media account regarding the sharp volatility in Borsa İstanbul. Emphasizing that small investors must be protected, Destici stated that they support the statements and measures to be implemented by the Capital Markets Board (SPK) and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB).
"This issue is not just about numbers"
Pointing out that the volatility in Borsa İstanbul directly affects citizens' savings, Destici noted the following:
"The sharp volatility in Borsa İstanbul is not just about numbers. The savings of our citizens who prefer to invest in Turkish lira instead of foreign currency are also affected here. In the current economic conditions Turkey is in, it is valuable for our country's financial stability that our citizens evaluate their savings in Turkish lira and direct them to our capital markets instead of keeping them in foreign currency or abroad."
"Small investors' savings cannot be targeted"
Stating that attempts to undermine confidence in the markets harm both investors and the national economy, Destici continued:
"However, any kind of manipulation and speculative transaction that leads to the erosion of this trust harms not only the investor but also our economy. Especially, targeting the savings of small investors is absolutely unacceptable."
Call for investigation and sanctions to the SPK
Stating that the SPK must act decisively against manipulative transactions, Destici included the following expressions: "The SPK must decisively conduct the necessary investigations and audits regarding individuals and structures that manipulate the market, create artificial price and transaction movements, and abuse the trust of investors; if any illegality is detected, it must apply the necessary sanctions without delay."
"We support the statements of the SPK and TCMB"
Emphasizing that they support the statements made by the SPK and the TCMB, Destici said, "In this context, we express that we support the statements made by the SPK and the TCMB and the principles to be implemented. Whoever deceives our nation with numbers and sets their eyes on the capital of our state and nation for the sake of personal gain; the relevant institutions of our state must take the harshest measures against them and ensure that our citizens emerge from this process without harm."
"Those who turn financial markets into a toy must not be allowed"
Mustafa Destici said, "We repeat time and again, while our state is implementing such a tight monetary policy, necessary sanctions must be applied to those who try to strike heavy blows to our nation by turning financial markets into their own toys."
