Biden avoids answering question on whether Israel is acting in accordance with the laws of war
US President Joe Biden refused to answer a question posed to him regarding whether Israel is acting in accordance with the laws of war.
Speaking to reporters on the plane returning from his visit to Israel, Joe Biden chose to leave the question, "Do you think Israel is acting in accordance with the laws of war?" unanswered.
Instead of answering the question, Biden ended the meeting with the press by saying, "It was nice talking to you."
Prior to this, the US President also denied reports in the Israeli press stating that officials from the US administration had indicated that the US military would support the Israeli army in this struggle if Hezbollah were to launch a war against Israel.
CONTACTS CONTINUE
Regarding the possibility of canceling Israel's potential ground operation into Gaza, Biden merely stated that Israeli and US military officials are holding discussions on what the alternatives might be.
Biden also stated that efforts regarding the evacuation of US citizens in Gaza are continuing.
Upon his return from Israel, in a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Biden had stated that Sisi had agreed to open the border to allow approximately 20 trucks to go to Gaza as a start.
ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT
The armed wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, had launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on the morning of October 7, named "Al-Aqsa Flood."
While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel, Palestinian armed groups raided and seized the Beit Hanoun-Erez Border Crossing on the Gaza-Israel border.
The armed groups then entered settlements inside Israel from there, and the Israeli army launched attacks on the Gaza Strip with dozens of fighter jets. It was reported that 1,405 Israelis, 304 of whom were soldiers, were killed and 3,968 Israelis were injured in the attacks from Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 3,478 people had been killed and more than 12,000 people injured in Gaza in Israel's attacks. It was also stated that 66 Palestinians had been killed and approximately 1,300 people injured in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank.
13 journalists lost their lives in Israel's attacks. In the clashes that began on the Lebanon border on October 8 between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, 10 Hezbollah members, 2 Islamic Jihad members, 1 journalist, and 2 civilians lost their lives. In attacks carried out from the Lebanese side, 2 Israeli soldiers and 1 Israeli civilian were also killed.
Finally, in the attack carried out by Israel on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on October 17, 471 people lost their lives, and 342 people, 28 of whom were in critical condition, were injured.
