Biden's first statement on the killing of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi
US President Joe Biden stated that he has spoken with his team regarding the situation of Turkish-American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was shot in the head and killed by Israeli soldiers, but that he does not yet have sufficient information about the incident.
US President Joe Biden has made his first statement regarding the killing of Turkish-American citizen and human rights activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi by Israeli soldiers.
Responding to reporters' questions during his visit to Michigan, Biden said he had spoken with his team about Eygi's death but that he did not have enough information at this time.
Biden stated, "I will have more details for you on this; however, I do not have that information yet. I need more information, which is why I was on the phone with my team."
STATEMENTS FROM THE US ADMINISTRATION
White House National Security Council (NSC) Spokesperson Sean Savett expressed deep concern over Eygi's death, saying, "We are heartbroken by the tragic death of American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi. We have requested an investigation into the incident."
The US Department of State also issued a similar statement, saying, "We are urgently gathering more information about the circumstances of Eygi's death."
ISRAELI SOLDIERS OPENED FIRE ON PROTESTERS
Israeli soldiers opened fire on participants during a peaceful demonstration held in the occupied West Bank. Turkish-American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was participating in the protest to support Palestinians, was shot in the head and critically wounded. Despite all medical interventions, Eygi could not be saved.
Eygi was a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), which supports Palestinians through peaceful methods against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
REACTION FROM ERDOGAN
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Eygi's death and stated that they would continue to strive on every platform to ensure that Israel is held accountable before the law for the crimes against humanity it has committed.
