"Big brother-big sister" model in the ÇEDES project: 'It is implementing FETÖ's methods and practically following in its footsteps'
The Diyanet has introduced another controversial project within the scope of the ÇEDES project, which was launched as a project against the secular education system. The Diyanet announced a new "values education" project called "Young Volunteers Meet Child Volunteers." Eğitim-İş Union President Kadem Özbay stated, "The Diyanet is re-implementing FETÖ's methods and is practically following in its footsteps."
Citizens' reactions continue against the ÇEDES project on the grounds that it targets the secular education system.
The Diyanet, meanwhile, has announced a new "values education" project called "Young Volunteers Meet Child Volunteers."
Within the scope of the project, 3rd and 4th-grade primary school students will carry out various activities in Diyanet youth centers and mosques under the supervision of religious officials and spiritual counselors. Additionally, "Diyanet Young Volunteers," to be selected from high school and university students, will provide guidance to primary school students with their homework.
According to the report by Aytunç Ürkmez from Cumhuriyet, it is noteworthy that the Diyanet did not sign a protocol with the ministry while including children studying in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MEB) in the project.
"FETÖ METHODS"
Educators have reacted to the project in question. Eğitim-İş Union President Kadem Özbay said, "The Diyanet is re-implementing FETÖ's methods and is practically following in its footsteps. With this project, the 'big brother-big sister' model we remember from FETÖ is being attempted to be formalized through the Diyanet. By failing to do its job, the MEB is opening up space for the Diyanet and religious sects. Thus, national education is being transformed into religious education."
