Bilal Erdoğan answers question about his political career goals: 'Let's say we became famous'

Meeting with university students at a program hosted by the Meram Municipality at the Tantavi Culture and Art Center, Bilal Erdoğan spoke clearly about the "political career" allegations that occasionally surface in the public eye. Erdoğan said, "I have no political career goals."

"Let's say we became famous"

When a university student asked about the news reports regarding his political career, Erdoğan replied, "Let me get the easy question out of the way. I have no political career goals. Let's say we became famous because some people made things up. But it will pass, hopefully; those things will pass."

Stating that the left-wing segment does not participate in marches supporting Palestine, Erdoğan said the following:

"We experience this during the January 1st events, and we experience it in other events as well. It is as if sensitivity toward Palestine in Turkey is only the sensitivity of a certain segment. In fact, some groups that are targets of certain political polarization do not want to participate in those places. They think, 'If I go there, they will think I am one of them.' Whereas they say, 'I am not one of them, I should not go there.' This is one dimension that needs to be broken. Another is that it seems as if the Palestinian cause is only the cause of religious, believing people. In Western countries, especially the left-wing segments are at the forefront regarding Palestine. There is no left-wing segment in Turkey. There really isn't, it's very tragicomic."

The entire world's left supports Palestine. The reason why countries like Spain, which are at the forefront of this issue, are like this is because they have left-wing governments. In our country, leftists actually used to embrace the Palestinian cause a lot at one time, but we do not see that sensitivity in these periods. Even though the left all over the world embraces this cause, the fact that the left in our country does not embrace it is an obstacle to the spread of this sensitivity in Turkey. We must succeed in making advocacy for Palestine not just an issue for a certain segment in Turkey. Let them not be seen with us, let them not be religious people at all, let them do it somehow, but why don't they? Let us not be seen, let us not be appreciated, let us be ignored, but just do it. Because this is an issue of humanity."

"Turkey will be a country with a super-aged population"

Drawing attention to Turkey's aging population and fertility rates, Bilal Erdoğan said, "Our population in Turkey is aging very seriously. In 5-10 years, our primary schools will start to become empty. We will ask, 'What should we do with this primary school building?' The aging of the population is very bad news for the future. Our fertility rate has dropped from 2.5 to below 1.5 in 20 years. This is very bad news. We will no longer be able to see a population of 90 million. In the year 2100, Turkey will be a country with a super-aged population of under 50 million."
