World Ethnosport Confederation President Bilal Erdoğan attended the academic year opening and awards ceremony of Süleyman Demirel University. Speaking at the event in Isparta, Erdoğan stated that universities should not be limited to producing academic knowledge, emphasizing research, social contribution, and values-based education.
Stating that research budgets, the number of universities, and the quality of higher education in Turkey have increased over the last 23 years, Erdoğan said that the rise in international rankings and the increase in technology-intensive exports are important indicators for monitoring the contribution of universities to production.
EMPHASIS ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION
Pointing to the importance of universities preparing themselves for the future in the age of artificial intelligence, Erdoğan expressed that academic studies and research capacity must be developed. According to Erdoğan, universities should focus on raising moral individuals in addition to training academics and scientific production.
Touching upon wars, oppression, and injustices in income distribution around the world in his speech, Erdoğan stated that academic activities should contribute to the upbringing of fairer and more responsible individuals.
Erdoğan also drew attention to the local values of the city where the university is located. Citing Isparta's rose and lavender production as an example, Erdoğan said that value-added and productivity in these areas should be increased, and research should be conducted on the different benefits of these products.
Commemorating those who lost their lives in the flood disaster in Istanbul, Erdoğan stated that good people must work harder, act courageously, and act in solidarity.
Those who pursue evil are unfortunately organized and more determined. If the good also see themselves as helpless, weak, and pathetic in the face of this, this world will unfortunately continue to get worse.
Stating that young people graduating from the university should be individuals who take responsibility and take action in the face of the problems they encounter, Erdoğan wished success to the rector, academics, and students for the new academic year.
