Bildirici reacts to those journalists: 'It's shameful... I wonder how they will be able to hold their heads up in front of people'
Veteran journalist, media ombudsman, and 12punto columnist Faruk Bildirici criticized the journalists on President Erdoğan's return flight from Tatarstan for failing to ask about 'Bahçeli's Öcalan call' in a striking post on his social media account. Bildirici expressed his reaction to the journalists in question with the words, "I wonder how they will be able to hold their heads up."
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered questions from journalists on the plane upon his return from his visit to Tatarstan, as he always does.
However, when these questions and answers were released, it was noted that a statement eagerly awaited by the public had not been made.
While there was anticipation regarding how AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan would respond to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call concerning PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan, this topic was not brought up on the return flight.
The journalists either did not ask Erdoğan about Bahçeli's statements, or the questions were prevented from being asked. While this silence in the media caused a widespread reaction, the attitude of the press became a target for criticism.
Media ombudsman and 12punto columnist Faruk Bildirici reacted harshly to the journalists' failure to ask about the Öcalan call.
In a statement on his social media account, Bildirici used the following expressions:
“It is truly a shameful situation to call yourself a journalist and not ask, or be unable to ask, Erdoğan about Bahçeli's call on that plane... It is a disrespect to both our profession and to readers and viewers. I wonder how they will be able to hold their heads up in front of people? What a pity…”
